Urban Homesteading with Permaculture Design

$100.00

Learn how to grow perennial food forests and annual gardens that support biodiversity and provide for you and your family. Elizabeth Lynch of Three Sister’s Permaculture and John Creasy of Larkspur Designs will lead the class and tour. Sites for this year will include John and Alyssa Creasy’s home, where Alyssa runs a flower micro-farm. The family has fruit trees, perennial veg, annual garden beds, rainwater collection, solar energy, five types of berries, a mini-bioshelter, and much more. This year we’ll also visit a suburban property in the North Hills (John’s parent’s house) where organic gardening has taken place consistently for over forty years. This property includes native pollinator gardens, incorporation of chickens into the system, excellent use of limited space, a small greenhouse, and John’s mom who is an excellent cook and food preservationist. At least one other garden will be included in the tour. We'll learn the priciples of creating intensive designs for small spaces for maximum production. This class is part of the permaculture design course taught through Garfield Community Farm and Wild Indigo in partnership with Three Sister's Permaculture. Class will be from 9am to 5pm August 24th. We will meet and carpool to sites starting at 1400 Hawthorne Street, 15201.
